Shane Balfour, PGA
Originating from Kingston, Surrey, England, Shane started his professional career a few days short of his fifteenth birthday. Enrolling in a golf professional apprenticeship he learned to build and repair golf clubs, the old fashioned way, before clubs were cast out of molds.
Shane worked as an Assistant Golf Professional for Sandy Meaden Head Professional at Surbitan Country Club, then in 1974 moved on to work for Len Roberts the Head Professional at Home Park Golf Club. In 1977 Shane decided to try his hand at playing golf for a living and played on the European Tour for 2 years. In 1979 Shane headed to the USA and got his first job in the States as the assistant pro to Mr. George Buzzini Sr at Turlock Country Club and in 1984 took over the Head Professionals position when Mr. Buzzini retired. In 1996 Shane was selected as Director of Golf at Diablo Grande in Patterson, California where he opened the Ranch Course shortly followed by the Legends West Course. In 2009 Shane changed gears and was offered an opportunity to work with the Junior Golf Association of Northern California as the Executive Director overseeing the 1800 members and 90 junior events, Shane currently shares his time with the association and teaching at Stevinson Ranch.
Assistant Golf Professional
Our newest member of the instruction team at the Performance Center & Golf Academy is Assistant Golf Professional J.D. Brewer. The JD stands for Jeffrey Donald (but don’t tell him we told you.). JD was born and raised in Hanford CA, and started playing golf in his sophomore year in high school. Quickly becoming addicted to the game, JD finished his high school career with 2 all conference honors, as well as finishing 2nd in the league. JD played his college golf at West Hills JC where his team won the Northern CA Regional, and State Championships. JD continued his college career at CAL State East Bay where he studied Kinesiology/Pre-Athletic training and played on the Golf Team. Since then he started his PGA/PGM program, caddies for a few Pro events, and is now one of our instructors.
JD is a good stick, and will focus part of his time working on league play here at the Ranch, particularly Women’s and juniors. You’ll see him around the course a lot, particularly the Golf Shop, and out on the range giving a lesson or two. Please welcome JD to the team.

All of our fine staff of instructors are available for individual private lessons. Whether you need full swing or short game help, you'll be given common sense tips that are easy to understand and apply. Our performance based curriculum means you can learn the secrets to scoring lower and competing successfully. Private lessons are appropriate for any golfer who wants one-on-one attention, no matter what your ability level. Call for an appointment.
Using our radar launch monitor technology, usually reserved only for the elite players of the game, we will be able to optimize your launch conditions, in order to maximize your driving distance. But we don't rely just on launch monitor readings to get the correct fit. At The Golf Academy at Stevinson Ranch, you'll hit from indoors to outdoors so you can be sure you're getting the ball flight results you're looking for.
We'll evaluate your current equipment and give you our sizing recommendations to make sure your equipment is compatible with your physique and swing. A professional club fit is a must before you invest in a new set of clubs. Besides fitting the right size equipment, we will offer suggestions on your set make-up.
At Stevinson Ranch we understand the body/swing connection. Our program starts with a Physical Evaluation that will determine specific areas of concern like strength and flexibility. Our instructors are Titlelist Performance Institute qualified.
